Julie's Quilts

With the help of Lunch, and the hindrance of both cats, I make quilts. Here are some of them. I apologize if my photography makes your eyes bleed.

Barbie quilt (approx. 40 x 50")
Completed in March 2003. I made this for a young friend of mine, Emily (shown here looking surly). She's five. That's my only excuse for the colors I used. The quilt was designed to go together quickly and made to wear like iron. This photo doesn't show the quilting; I quilted hearts into the larger squares and wave patterns into the large rectangles. I fervently hope Emily outgrows her Barbie fetish before the thing falls to shreds.

America the Beautiful (approx. 46 x 52")
Completed in February 2003. This is a wallhanging made as a gift for my father, to be donated to the charity auction of his choice. It's my proudest achievement so far.

Star log cabin lap quilt (approx. 50 x 70")
I made this for my grandfather, January 2003. It's all in plaid flannels, really difficult to work with! This is the first quilt I've ever tied -- my sewing machine was on the blink and I had a deadline, so the fast solution ended up being the best. I don't particularly like the look of the ties on the red fabric; my local fabric store didn't have any perle cotton to match. Here's a close-up of a single block.

Christmas wall hanging (approx. 30 x 50")
I made this for Mom at Christmas 2002. It's a scrappy red and green log cabin with cream and gold metallics in the lighter logs. The doves are appliqued by hand with pearlescent eyes.

Pieced pillow (18" square)
Made for Aunt Betty, July 2002. I used silk organdy ribbon, batik cotton, and Michael Miller's Fairy Frost prints.

Table runner (16" x 44")
Made for a family challenge, June 2002.

Wall hanging (18" x 24")
Made for a family challenge, June 2002. Inspired by a photograph in Fine Gardening (also shown).

I Spy (70" square)
Made for my nephews David and Thomas, Christmas 2001. Every other 4" square features a different picture.

Magnolia pinwheels (45" square)
Made for my grandmother, Christmas 2001.

Jonah's quilt (42" square)
Made for the birth of Jonah Mark Cole, the son of my best friend, November 2001. I used flannel printed with Royal Doulton's Bunnykins family.

Terry's wall hanging (36" x 50")
Made for Terry Wolfisch Cole on the occasion of moving to her first house, October 2001.

Matthew's quilt (42" square)
Made for my newest nephew, Matthew Christian, for his birth, June 2001. I used this rubber duckie print for the centers of the stars.

Paul's wall hanging (16" x 44")
Made for Paul, Christmas 2000.
