Melvin
Burkhart was one of the foremost sideshow performers of the 20th
century; his career started in the 1930's and was active throughout
the 90's. He invented both "the Human Blockhead" and "Anatomical
Wonder" acts. For many years Melvin was the inside talker for the
sideshow traveling with the James E. Strates Carnival (America's
Largest). Melvin also worked for Ripley's Odditorium and finished
his career with us in Coney Island from 1986-1990. He lived in Gibsonton,
Florida and is survived by his wife Joyce.
Melvin was the greatest inspiration of all to those of us in the
sideshow. His memory will live on in future generations of performers
at Coney Island, USA.
