My Future

January 30th, 2011 Posted in Uncategorized

All our futures, really, but since I’m little and hopefully will grow to be old(er), this is what mine will look like. How does she get over these monster puddles??

I was reading a short biography about Mozart by Peter Gay. According to Gay, in the last year of Mozart’s life he wrote two operas, a piano concerto, minuets, counterdances, a clarinet concerto, a Masonic cantata, two quintets and most of the Requiem.

Way to make all the rest of us look bad, Mozart.

She’ll be fine. She’s got rainboots.

I’ve been looking at pictures of my paternal grandmother at my age (55) and how old she looked back then. Permed gray hair, housedress and laced-up orthopedic shoes. Me? I keep my hair colored and you couldn’t pry me out of my jeans (well, at work you can, but not the rest of the time). I don’t think you’ll look like a little old lady when you become one; I sure plan on not looking like one.

There’s a quote from Tom Lehrer that goes something like, “It’s sobering to consider that by the time Mozart was my age he’d been dead five years.”

That’s why I prefer to compare myself to guys like, I dunno, the one running the deli down the street.

And even then they usually blow me out of the water.

    Nora, ha!

Karen, yeah. I wonder if they thought the same thing about their grandparents. Have we always been slowly looking younger and younger.

I, for one, do not own rain boots.
