Poor Finney

Finney’s prognosis has gone from bad to horrible, and a prosthetic leg is now off the table. The vet said the tumor is massive and deep, and they’re now saying they’d need to remove part of his pelvis as well. We’ll discuss all the options when the results are back, but it’s highly unlikely I’d put him through removing that much of his body. My questions are going to be more geared toward how long can I keep him comfortable and pain-free.

I took off the cone of shame as soon as I got him home and I’m watching him. I don’t think he can reach the spot where the sutures are, and I’d like to spare him that if I could.

  1. So sorry to hear this news, Stacy! Finney has been well-loved and so well looked after. Sometimes letting them go is the biggest gift we can give our animals. I will be thinking of you and both your sweet cats. Take care.

  2. That’s heart breaking news and there are no words, but as a person who has also lost her black cat, Feather, many years ago, I feel your pain. Hoping for a peaceful end to his suffering. Sixteen years is a long life for a kitty cat.

  3. My heart goes out to you. It’s never easy, as I know you know.
Give him lots of pets from those that have seen him in pics…

  4. I am so sorry, my heart breaks for you. I think you have made the right choice in keep him comfortable until it’s time to let him go. You will know when that time comes, never fear.

I’ve been doing a boat load of grieving of different sorts lately, so all I can say is, it’s different for each situation and for each person, including the different aspects of who ‘You’ are, each time. In your next entry after this, you speak of a mental health day and I applaud this. Do whatever feels like the right thing for you to do. If doing something doesn’t quite feel right, don’t do it, especially if you think you ‘should’ just because of what other people do or think. If you have doubts, don’t do it.

  5. Thank you everyone. We’re both okay for now. Finney doesn’t seem like he’s in pain or anything yet, and he’s eating well. So I’m enjoying this time while it lasts.

Julia, I’m sorry for whatever and whoever you are grieving for.

  6. So sorry to hear about Finney! It is a very tough decision. Hang in there and enjoy your time together.
