Happy Valentine’s Day!

February 14th, 2017 Posted in Uncategorized

Whether you have a valentine or not! I was feeling terrible yesterday, because at the moment I’m dealing with a very sick cat, so many things in my life are up in the air—as well as the lack of romance in my life, thank you very much holiday, for the in-you-face reminder—but today I’m determined not to dwell on all of it. Except, I don’t yet have a plan for what to do instead. Hmmm. I’ve got choir rehearsal tonight. I wonder if it will be poorly attended?

I was originally going for a shot of the plastic cat on the wall, and then I saw the sign.

Love, love, love the plastic cat! And the sign is so apt now, isn’t it, which is why they put it up. It may be time for Divine intervention me thinks as Rump has botched up again …. I don’t think you are alone in your personal woes – we’ve all been there. This morning upon awakening, I thought of this day of Hearts. I gave thanks that I no longer had any desire for romance which seems like a waste of my time on earth. Yet I still dream of that perfect man that probably died in Viet Nam. Thanks LBJ. Happy Valentine’s Day anyway.

This is my first Valentine’s Day alone in 34 years. It doesn’t bother me much, but the advertising and hoopla is way in my face, I agree. I have been looking for glue gun glue sticks in the basement and instead, have photographed and posted two things to give away in “Buy Nothing Nepean West” and filled a box with ancient sports equipment to give away to ‘Play it Again Sports’ so not too shabby. The 14th is just a day on the calendar. I will be going out tomorrow which is Trivia Night at the grad student pub, which is every Wednesday, Valentine’s notwithstanding. There I treat myself to a beer or two.

So true about the Hitler thing.

Hey Rebecca. I’m sorry for the loss you are referring to. And yes, it really is time for some sort of intervention. It’s completely and totally insane and beyond unacceptable.

Julia, I love purging!! How’d you do on Trivia Night? I adore trivia contests although I’m not so good at them anymore. The’yre still fun though!

Usually, our trivia team these days tends to be composed of only two of us, grad students in philosophy. So we don’t even come in third most weeks. But, we are there every week and points are cumulative over the semester so we may come in third over-all in April. We shall see. We enjoy trivia for the challenge and the competitiveness and mostly, we have fun. This year our team name is influenced by how Carleton University plays on the C.U. (they have a speaker series called “C U in the City” for example.) And last year, the philosophy team was “The First Circle” a reference to Dante, and where the philosophers are located. So this year we are “#CU in Hell”. We also play in the city of Ottawa trivia league with the same team name, but we’re not even on the board. Sometimes we are joined by others and then we tend to get a few more points, based on what they might know.

And the purging is coming along! I found my glue sticks and threw out a whole garbage bag full of stuff. Baby steps! (A reference to What About Bob.)

    I love the names!!!!!!!

Good luck on the purging though. It feels so great when you are done, but it can be painful at times while you’re doing it.
