I Miss the Kitten Nursery!

Kitten season is over and they’ve been laying off everyone bit by bit. My last day was Tuesday. I may work elsewhere at the ASPCA in the meantime, I may be back at the Kitten Nursery next spring, I don’t know right now what’s going to happen for me. It’s so sad though. It was really great to go to work every day doing something that felt important and meaningful to me, and to be around people who were truly wonderful. Also, I kept saying this the last week, but I think being surrounded by kittens every day raised our endorphin levels or something, and to be without that is a little depressing.

Thank god for my monsters. I spent yesterday sewing up all the holes Bodhi and Bali have made in my comforter. But I ran out of white thread and learned that there is NO PLACE in my neighborhood that sells thread, for the love of God. I miss Woolworth’s.

This was what I saw every morning arriving at work. That’s dawn on the East River, and the glowing doorway to the left is the entrance to the Nursery.
