The Lower Lower East Side

I was walking around the very lower east side, looking for an old tenement for the book proposal I’m working on but the building is gone, alas.

This is a picture of the Manhattan bridge. I was trying to figure out what people would have seen out their windows in 1892, but it wouldn’t have been this bridge. But they may have been able to see the Brooklyn Bridge in the distance.

  1. Stacy, have you watched Ric Burn’s PBS New York series? I just finished the last dvd last week. My favourite ones were the early ones, Henry Hudson to about 1950. I think you’d enjoy them.

  2. I have but thank you for reminding me of its existence. I haven’t seen it since it first came up and it’s time to watch it all again.
