I Should Have Taken at Least One Economics Class

Life.jpg I want to call my brother Douglas to ask him to explain all of this to me, but I suspect he’s going to have a busy day (he works for Merrill Lynch). But what the fuck? About Bear Stearns, I mean. I understand what happened, but how could it happen? Actually no, I only understand the bare bones of what happened. I need more back story. I need all the gray areas explained to me, I’m missing the nuance. I really don’t know what happened.

Bottom line: Should I be scared?

What should I stock up on? Will they need writers in the Great Depression of ’08?

  1. the book I’m reading is your back story–it’s The Squandering of America, How the Failure of our Politics Undermines our Prosperity, by Robert Kuttner; I heard him on NPR and immediately got the book; it’s quite disturbing

  2. I don’t know anything about economy. I just felt like saying I really like the 2 books of yours that I read. I saw Restless Sleep in the library one day and just grabbed it because I like the genre. While reading it I noticed the name of your other book, Waiting for My Cats to Die. I have had cats forever. At the time I read of WFMTD I was in fact waiting for 2 of my older cats to die. They’re gone now, and 3 remain in their stead.

I think you’re hilarious, honest and Real, and I just wanted to say that. I come to your blog every now and then just to see how you’re doing. I look forward to your next book.

  3. Michelle, thanks for the book pointer.

And Alyssa, thank you so much for your post. That put me in a GREAT mood. THANK YOU!! That was so nice of you. And I’m very excited and hopeful about this next book. I can’t believe it. I’ve got a book coming out next year.
