WARNING: SPOILER AHEAD!!!
I went to see this movie last weekend after my mom and sister saw it and gave good reviews. I wasn't all that interested, but I ended up going anyway.

I have to admit it wasn't all that bad. It was a funny movie, and Johnny Depp was hysterical. The Oompa Loompas were funny as well, doing modernized versions of the old Oompa Loompa songs in new styles, such as disco.
As you may already know, the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was a recreation of the old Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. I think the whole reason they remade it was to go into a little more detail of Willy Wonka's past. In the movie they show his father, an uptight dentist who never let his son have any candy (and put him in a headgear more elaborate than the International Spacestation), Willy's first piece of candy, and him running away from home to escape his father's rules about candy.
Other than that, the movie is the same as Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and the book, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I would reccomend that you see this movie as soon as you can.

I've stayed up as late as I could every night, although I only go to bed around 11 o'clock. I've slept in 'till 10 or 11 every morning, something that has always been impossible due to summer camps and school.
I've had friends over for hours at a time and gone swimming at the local pool.
I've made breakfast for the family and read 3 Garfield books in an hour.
I've been able to play every video and computer game I own and scope out every good deal at the local Plaid Pantry, which sometimes results in bringing home a 2-liter of soda for less than a dollar.
But the thing I am most proud of is the fact that I have not driven my mother totally insane ... because I know that's my sister's job.

       Anyway...

For the last two weeks Drama Mama (See Lifetime Joy) and me have been having a lemonade stand.
It all started when Drama Mama decided she wanted to have a lemonade stand. She said if I helped she would give me half of her profits. That day we made 18 dollars. I thought it would be a good idea to keep doing it daily, as long as the weather was nice. I also proposed using some of our profits to buy more supplies, instead of Mom buying everything.
So far we've only spent about 6 or 7 dollars on supplies and we've made around 40 dollars, which is good since we were out there only 6 times due to weather and appointments (mainly swimming). We plan to keep doing this, so if you happen to be near 21st, just north of Broadway, feel free to stop by. If you mention this post, you get a free refill!

We were there for about five days. It was okay, but the days were long and boring. We spent about 4 hours a day doing field study, where we learned about Water, Animals, Soil, or Plants (we switched every day). We also had time with our class and recreation time, where we did stuff like go on hikes, play field games, and do other stuff like that. We spent an hour and a half every day with our cabins, where we had a fort building contest and played field games.
We were up for 14-16 hours a day, depending on how long it took you to go to sleep. We got up at 7 o'clock every morning, unless you had to take a shower, and went to bed at 9 o'clock, although I stayed up to 11 every night because 9 is way too early to go to sleep. I was on the bottom bunk, and the person on the top snored and rolled around, shaking the bunk. Someone in our cabin described him as a young Tony Soprano, because he was kinda big and looked like an Italian.
Overall it was okay, and it was a lot better than going to school. And here are the names of some of the counselors...

Splinter-my cabin leader
Cambria
Banana Slug
Bullfrog-Water field instructor, worked at an after school program I went to
Kumo- Producer for the TV show, The Real World, my friend convinced him to consider a kids Real World
Kintla
Blaze- the best counselor there, everyone in his cabin was a "Blaze Boy", and got t-shirts with that on the front and a jersey number on the back
Vega-Soil field instructor
Grizzly-Plants field instructor, great Napolean Dynamite and Shrek impersonations
Stretch-Animals field instructor, tall
Snake-Camp Leader
Trapper John
Squeeker
Wild
Ladybug- Nurse, helped when I lost one of the lenses on my glasses
Eagle- our teacher
Sunshine- a teacher from another school, found my lense

A long time ago, on a blog far far away... I wrote a review on the new Star Wars movie, Episode three. This spoils the movie, so don't read it unless you don't plan to see the movie or if you've already seen it.

Overall, the movie was good, and tied all the loose ends up very nicely. It told of the death of Lord Tyranus (Count Dooku), the rise and fall of General Grievous, the transformation of Anakin into Darth Vader, the birth of the twins, Luke and Leia, the reason why Darth Sidious is so hideously ugly, the death of all the other Jedi, and Obi-Wan and Yoda going into hiding after the rise of the sith. The lightsaber fights were good, but when Yoda fought it was disappointing to not see him jumping around. And the dialogue stunk! The best line in the movie was Anakin yelling "I hate you!" at Obi-Wan while lying on the ground with his feet sliced off. Again, overall the movie was good, but I think Yoda needed to fight the way the way he did in Episode II. And here are my favorite lines from the Star Wars saga...

"May the force be with you" - Just about every Jedi in the movies, episodes 1-6
"Hard to see the dark side is" - Yoda, episode 1
"The dark side clouds everything" - Yoda, episode 2
"Why do I get the feeling you're going to be the death of me someday?" - Obi- Wan Kenobi, episode 2
"Powerful you have become, Dooku, the darkside I sense in you" - Yoda, episode 2
"Begun the Clone War has" - Yoda, episode 2
"Luke, I am your father" - Darth Vader, episodes 4-6
'You have unusual powers, young Padawan. But not enough to save you this time" - Count Dooku, episode 2
"You're breaking my heart!" - Padme, episode 3

...And I've been working like a dog. I can really relate to that song after working all day, trying to make my moms Mother's Day the best.

It all started this morning around 9 o'clock, when I made breakfast. I spent about an hour making eggs with ham and cheese, and 15 pieces of bacon. Then, I had to try and amuse my sister and try to give mom her space, a feat I will never attempt again. After a little relaxation time mixed with keeping my sister quiet while my mom slept, we were off to the grocery store to get my sister an early birthday present. And, of course, it starts raining, and my sister didn't bring her coat, so I gave her my sweatshirt and walked 10 blocks in the rain in a short sleeve shirt. After that I finally got some quality relaxation time, that is until I remembered that I had homework. By the time I finished that, it was 10 o'clock, and I was wiped, so I sat down and wrote this post. And now, I'm doomed to go to sleep with that great Beatles song stuck in my head,"It's been a hard days night, and I've been working like dog"...

The Jew Crew is the group made by me and my 2 friends. It was originally an idea for a comic book, but we have started referring to each other by Jew Crew names. For example, I'm Shlomo and my friend is Yarmulkeman (yes, I know we jews can't spell) or Jew Crew #2. We have also expanded, with my friend who's catholic as "Captain Catholicism" with his sidekick "Christian the Kid". When we were going into details, we came up with rapidly growing sideburns and shirts that say "100% Kosher". I feature a menorah-shaped jetpack and the catch-phrase "Anybody wanna play dreidle?" as well as the motto "We invented the ghetto"(according to Captain Catholicisim's brother, the Jews were the creators of the ghetto, a fact still undergoing study). We were so deep into it we even had car names like "The Popemobile" and "The Turbo Torah Tobaggan".

I can tell you, we pulled out every stereotype in the book, and since we were the stereotyped, we didn't think about it too much.

My Lesson

One day, as I was going to the P.W.C.S, I got a phone call. They told me I needed to hurry up and get there, so off I went. As I was going, I was wondering why the P.W.C.S. wanted me there.

As I entered the conversation room at the P.W.C.S. headquarters, I could tell something was wrong. Only half of the board members were there, and a lot of them were pale. Then, one of them spoke. "Help!" he cried. "the Goats have attacked and have destroyed the Great Cheese Mines!"

"What am I supposed to do about it?" I asked.

"You have been voted as the ambassador for the Cows," another cow replied. "You will go to Barnyard HQ tomorrow to speak on behalf of the cows."

The next day, I went to the Barnyard HQ and met with the other animals. At the meeting were the Cows, Sheep, Horses, Goats, Chickens and Donkeys. The Sheep and Horses joined the Cows side at the meeting, while the Chickens joined the Goats. The F.U.N. (or Farm United Nations) failed to convince the Goats to give up, and they left very angry.

As I left, a Goat ambassador came over to me. I tried to avoid him, but he caught me. Then, he grabbed me! He threw me into the ambassadors' van and drove off!

When I was taken out of the van, I was at an old…milk factory? Some goats took me to a milk factory? I thought goats made milk - not got it from factories. Those milk wannabees! No wonder goat milk tastes fake.

Anyway, they told me to betray the Cows. When I refused, they tied me up and left me in the fake milk factory. They said they would come for me when the war was over.

My lesson learned? Never get involved in a war between farmland animals. And never, ever let anyone take you to a milk factory. It smells like wet goats - and trust me, that stinks!

	The Quest for a Friend

"Oh my gosh" whispered a voice above me, "is it alive?"
Slowly I opened my eyes. Above me I saw two men in white suits. They looked a lot like scientists. I tryed to get up, but couldn't . "Where was I?" "How did I get there?" and "Why am I here?" were the questions running through my mind.

Then one of the scientists said "The transformation's complete!"
"What transformation?" I replied.
"You volunteered for a transformation from a human to a cow" one of them said "We are scientists working for the P.W.C.S."
"WHAT" I yelled of the top of my lungs "I've been turned into a cow!"
"Yes" replied the scientist calmly " The P.W.C.S. also said you need to make a friend in one day in order to stay a cow forever."
"Okay" I said "This will be easy."
The next day I was holding auditions. The first audition was by a cow named Chuck. Chuck was, well, how can I put it, not alright in the old noodle. He kept calling me Alexis and was talking about paint. After twenty minutes of being lectured about how to paint a house, I knew it was going to be a long day. How right I was.
Next was a cow named Larry. I kept asking him why he wanted to be my friend, but he just asked where he was, and who I was, and where his mom was. He reminded me of Dory from "Finding Nemo", but when I told him this, he said"Ohhh,so I'm a fish"and started wiggling around and saying "I'm a fish".
Then, at the end of the day, as I was leaving, sad with the thought of being turned back into a human, a small duck came in. He said " Hi, my name is Bob the cow".
"But, you're a duck.." I said hesitently .
"And what's that supposed to to mean Mr.'I look like an black and white TV."
"It means you're not a cow."
"But I am, see!" he quacked "Moo-Moo, I'm lazy and I'm eating grass, Moo-Moo, I look like a dumb person, Moo-Moo".
"Don't make me call Elmer Fudd!" I warned him.
"Yikes!" he squacked "It's duck season, gotta go!"
"Wow" I said, freaked out by Bob the Cow/Duck.
The next day went by so fast, I could hardly grasp it. All I knew was at the end of the day I was back to my old human self. As I walked home, I felt a tear go down my cheek as I whispered "So close, yet so far".

The P.W.C.S.

About two weeks ago, as I was walking home from school, something happened that changed my life. It changed my whole life, and I'll never forget what happened.

As I said, it was about two weeks ago, as I was walking home from school. I'd had a pretty normal day. Basics was fun, lunch was boring, and my math teacher was trying to be cool, again. But then something out of the ordinary happened. I was crossing 24th Street when a white van with black spots pulled up. My first thought was that whoever owned that van must love cows. But as the window was rolled down, I realized my mistake. That person didn't just love cows– it WAS a cow!

I was speechless. A cow had just pulled up in a van! I said the first thing that came to mind. "I've already had three servings of dairy today," I said, slightly scared of what that cow could do.

Then the cow spoke. "Hop in," said the cow. "You are being taken to the P.W.C.S."

I was stunned! I mean, a van-driving cow had just asked me to go to the PW.C.S. Headquarters, whatever that was. I quickly decided to get in. I mean, what could a cow do to me? I got inside, and immediately asked him, "What's the P.W.C.S?"

The cow replied, "It stands for People who Worship Cows who are Short. It's a cow fan club, and you'll be questioned to see if you love cows enough."

When we got to the Headquarters, they stuck me in a room with lots of cows and humans. They asked me questions for what seemed like hours, then put me in a smaller room while they decided if I could join.

When they came back with their decision, I knew there was something big going on. They told me that their leader was resigning, and they needed someone to fill in. They had decided that I would be perfect. I couldn't believe it! It was the happiest day of my life. I had just been voted leader of a cow fan club!

For the rest of my childhood, I was the leader of the cows. And when I grew up, I founded an international cow organization. And to think that it started on the happiest day of my life, when I was admitted to the P.W.C.S.

The Cows from Pen 13

A few years ago, in a remote part of Oregon, there was a farm. It looked like any other farm, with a big red barn, fields filled with vegetables, and plenty of farm animals. The owner of the farm, McFoe, loved cows, so it isn't surprising that he owned more cows than any other kind of animal.

Farmer McFoe loved all of his cows, except for the ones in Pen 13, who kept to themselves and stayed in their pen almost all the time. To him they seemed strange, but he kept them for reasons unknown.

One day, Farmer McFoe was getting ready for bed when he heard a noise from one of his cow pens. He went to his barn immediately, thinking that someone was trying to steal his beloved cows. But when he got to his barn, he saw that the doors were locked. Feeling scared and confused, he went in. He looked at each one of his pens to make sure none of his cows were missing.

As he reached Pen 13, he saw that there were no cows. Farmer McFoe looked around for his cows. He looked up, anxious to find his cows and get to bed. When he did, he saw a pale cow covered with camouflage paint. "Farmer McFoe," yelled the cow. "We have come to free our fellow cows from your evil oppression!"

Farmer McFoe backed up slowly, and then turned to run, but he came face to face with two more of these 'Camo-Cows' who were blocking the exit. Farmer McFoe ran to his special exit, but when he made it outside, there were dozens of Military Copters, with 'Camo-Cows' sliding down on ropes.

Farmer McFoe stopped and closed his eyes, hoping this was just a dream, but it wasn't. Soon the cows had surrounded him, and he heard a voice on a loudspeaker saying "Farmer McFoe, you are under arrest in the name of cow law for holding these cows against their will and illegally selling cows bodily substances."

Farmer McFoe looked around, hoping there was a way he could escape. He saw that there was a gap in the lines of cows, and he made a break for it.

The cows started shooting at him. As he looked around, he realized they were shooting HAY at him! Suddenly Farmer McFoe felt a sharp pain in his leg. He tried to keep running, but the pain got the best of him and he blacked out.

When he woke up, Farmer McFoe was lying on a bed. He saw a nurse, and asked her where he was. She told him he was in a prison hospital, and he would be serving is life sentence in Mooapolis. For the next 50 years, Farmer McFoe spent his days in jail. On earth, everyone thought the cows had all broken out, and Farmer McFoe had been trampled. But no one knew the truth, that he had been captured by the cows from Pen 13.

The Amber Spyglass

The Amber Spyglass is the third book in the Philip Pullman series His Dark Materials. I would give this book a 9.9 out of 10 because it is excellent, but kind of leaves you wondering what happens in the end. I give the series a 10 out of 10, and it has earned its place in my favorite collection of books, along with Harry Potter and Artemis Fowl.

The Amber Spyglass picks up with Lyra and Will planning to go to the land of the dead to apologize to Roger because Lyra caused his death. Will also goes along to talk to his father.

When they reach the land of the dead, they are told they must leave their daemons behind. Lyra decided that she had to, and Will didn’t know his daemon so he went along too. When Lyra and Will met up with Roger and Will’s father, they plan to help the ghosts escape from the land of the dead. With the help of some harpies, they manage to reach the surface. Will cuts a hole into another world, and the ghosts leave, spreading their atoms into every thing in the worlds.

Meanwhile, in another world, Mary Malone (a doctor from Will’s world) created an Amber Spyglass - a spyglass that can see Dust. She uses it to see that the Dust is being drained from the world. She tries to figure out why the Dust is leaving.

When Will and Lyra are searching for their daemons after freeing the ghosts, they reach the world Mary Malone is in. While they in this world, they realize they love each other. When this happens, the Dust stops draining from the world. Will and Lyra discover that the reason the Dust was draining was because the knife Will had left many inter-world windows, and these all drained into a dark abyss that sucks up Dust. In order to stop this, Will must close all the windows that the knife made.

Lyra and Will decide that they can’t protect the worlds and see each other, so they each go back to their own worlds, despite the fact that they are in love.

I liked this book although I thought it left a few questions, like what the dark abyss was, and what happens to Will and Lyra. I love this series, and it is now one of my all-time favorites.

The Subtle Knife

The Subtle Knife is the second book in the His Dark Materials trilogy by Philip Pullman. It is a very good book, but it is very hard to understand without first reading The Golden Compass, the first book in the His Dark Materials trilogy.

The book starts out with a young boy named Will, who comes from Oxford, England. He is going around on his daily business when he sees something out of the ordinary. He finds a window, which leads to another world. He goes through this window into the world of Cittagazze, a world overrun by Specter creatures that eat the souls of adults.

Meanwhile, a young girl named Lyra has just entered a similar window into Cittagazze. Will and Lyra meet and end up deciding to stick together for their journey. First Lyra goes to Will’s world to met up with a scientist, Mary Malone, to talk about Dust, a mysterious particle that Mary studies.

When Lyra and Will go back to Cittagazze. Will goes into a big building, and comes out with a knife capable of cutting through anything, even the very fabric of space. With this knife, Will and Lyra can travel through all the different worlds. Lyra and Will travel through the world of Cittagazze, trying to find the secret of the Dust, and for Will to find his long-lost father.

Near the end of the book, Lyra is captured, and Will is left to decide his next move.

This book is very good, and so is the whole His Dark Materials trilogy. This book ties the first and third books together nicely, but is very hard to understand without reading the first book.

This was my first Middle School book report.

The Golden Compass

The book I read was The Golden Compass, by Philip Pullman. It is the first of a 3-book series called His Dark Materials. I would highly recommend this book to people who love fantasy books like Harry Potter and Artemis Fowl. If I had to rate this book on a scale of 1-10 I would give it an 8 because the book was very good, but also very hard to understand.

This book is based on a world like ours with some major differences, such as: there are many fantasy creatures, there are different names for things, the world is run entirely by the church, and that creatures called daemons exist as souls that are not within the body but are still attached to the people. There are also many similarities between the world in the book and the real world, such as: there is the same world map, there are still the same historical events, and there is still a church.

The book starts with the main character, Lyra, sneaking into a room to spy on her uncle, Lord Asriel. The place she lives is at Jordan College and is an orphan as far as she knows. As she is spying on Lord Asriel she sees the college master try to poison him. Lyra tells Lord Asriel what the master did once he is gone. Lord Asriel mentions a strange elemental particle called dust that collects around kids, but no one knows what it is.

Weeks later she is hearing rumors of "Gobblers," a group that is supposedly kidnapping kids. One by one the gyptian chidren are disappearing and Lyra decides to find out whats up. After a while she finally gives up on her search. The master decided then that Lyra should live a life outside of college and sends her to live with Ms. Coulter, a mysterious woman. Before she leaves the master gives her a altheimeter, or truth teller.

After Ms. Coulter threatens Lyra's daemon she runs away. While running she is found by her friend Tony Costa who takes her to his people. His people tell her that Lord Asriel and Ms Coulter are her parents. They also have found out that the kids are in the North Pole.

After months of travel Lyra finally reaches the north, only to get kidnapped by 2 complete strangers. She is taken to a place where her mother is cutting kids daemons away, witch is like cutting your soul away. Lyra finds a way to free all of the kids and leads them into the wilderness. She eventually finds her friends group again and rescues her father from a prison. Her father then kidnaps her friend and takes him to the aurora. Once at the aurora he sacrifices her friend and breaks a inter dimensional hole in the aurora.

This book is the first of the series so the ending is really abrupt. To fully understand the book I would recommend that you read it, because there are a lot of parts too hard and too long to explain
