Programming with Java IDL was written using Microsoft Word 6.0 and 7.0 and FrameMaker 3.0, 4.0 and 5.0. For the record, Microsoft Word 7.0 really cannot handle documents as long as this book very well. Also for the record, FrameMaker and Word really don't play well together. Some figures were developed using FrameMaker and Visio 3.0 and 4.0, and converted to encapsulated PostScript using Photoshop 3.0.4. HiJaak was used to convert some images provided by Sun to PC-friendly formats. There were a few things that we found simpler to do with Paint Shop Pro 4.12 than with Photoshop, so we used that as necessary. Wiley used Quark to do the layout and composition.

Code examples were developed on Sun Microsystems Sparc workstations of varying models. The code examples were tested on Sparc Solaris 2.5.1 and Microsoft Windows 95.

The original version of this Web site was developed using Netscape Communicator Composer 4.0.2 and tested on Netscape Communicator Navigator 4.0, Netscape Navigator 3.01 and Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0. The current version of this site is maintained using Microsoft Front Page 98.
