"Multi-keyboardists who want to add a piano accordion to their rig are
faced with a dilemma. A garage sale special is likely to be inexpensive
enough, but such instruments often need tuning or other repairs. The 120-bass,
40-key squeezeboxes you may encounter in the pawnshop world can be heavier
and bulkier than you'd prefer. And while one or two reed settings might
work for some material, a single instrument may not give enough tonal
variation for a wide variety of styles. New instruments? Pro-quality accordions
generally start around $2,000, and can easily go up to ten times that.
The Main Squeeze 911 addresses just about all these issues. It's an
absolutely pro-level instrument, built like a tank, but at 15 lbs. it's
remarkably lightweight. Its lacquered walnut body, Art Deco grille, and
contrasting bellows fabrics are a delight to the eyes -- this thing looks
great next to a B-3. The 26 right-hand keys are snappy yet solid. five
switches select crisply between the treble reed combinations. The 72 bass
buttons feel secure and responsive, with none of the wiggles that plague
lower-end instruments.
The key to the 911's versatility is in its treble reed blocks -- bassoon,
clarinet, musette, bandoneon, and master. The bassoon and clarinet reeds
respond evenly up and down the keyboard, and the combination setting is
dry enough to sound great on Cajun, rock, and alternative-pop material.
The musette block is deliciously wet, perfect for Parisian styles.
I've been using it for the past few weeks with my klezmer band. i'm
all over the place in a klezmer setting: left hand bass and chords, using
both hands and grooving like crazy, accompanying a sensitive vocal ballad,
playing a burning melody, or laying down chord beds that blend in with
the other acoustic rhythm instruments. The 911 made me feel I could do
it all, and sound good while I did it; it's an excellent all-around accordion,
especially for those of us who double on keys."
-- Ernie Rideout, Keyboard Magazine - May 2002

"Walter Kuehr's new Main Squeeze Accordion screams out versatility.
Its compact size poses no compromise to a full compliment of rich sounds.
In one sitting I played a Cajun waltz, an Irish fiddle tune, some blues,
and a French musette tune. The Main Squeeze provides five perfect choices
of sounds. It has all the sounds I want or need and it looks great, too!"
--Louis Giampetruzzi, author of "Contemporary Accordion"
"I really enjoyed playing the Main Squeeze accordion. I'm recommending
it to my students. It has a strong yet sensitive tone, good resonance
due to the wood, and the right size and price."

Playboys)
