I'm sitting here eating a bowl of "porridge," made of McCann's Irish Oatmeal, because Alan said I should.
Truthfully, $6.59 later, I think I like plain old oatmeal better. But I'm like that.
One time, my mother-in-law (the other one...it's a complicated family tree) brought me these fancy candies from la Maison du Chocolat, and I would have preferred a Snickers bar.

i simply couldn't agree more, which should not shock you. sometimes bad is quite good enough.
America's Test Kitchen (Cook's Illustrated) taste tested chicken broth and all the frufru organic free range ones were consistently rated low. Swanson's was rated best, admittedly due to the sodium/msg levels.
Posted by: delegatrix on February 19, 2003 10:45 AMbut, you know, i've lost a lot of faith in cook's illustrated ever since they said in their article on chili that cinnamon wasn't a good addition. balls, say i.

Posted by: terry on February 19, 2003 03:36 PMthat is now my default chili recipe, and my mother's as well. when my mom tried it instead of her tried-and-true traditional recipe, my dad said wistfully, "this is good chili, but i like your recipe better." mom's answer? "this IS my recipe now."
apparently, mary made it for my dad once, and my dad was hugely ill after eating it, and that was the end of that. doofuses.
