a little glimpse of me

weekend news and notes

A busy weekend here, but no digital documentation, unfortunately. Some highlights and a lowlight:

  • Visits from my dad, who got a ride in from Buffalo (the pickup at the Mass Pike was complicated, but only because I am a spacker), and from Lisa and Adam, who braved traffic jams all the way up from Maryland (they say that their new XM Radio device helped immensely);

  • Friday night's turkey burgers were delicious, although, unfortunately, the pie was decidedly runny. It seems that a much heavier hand with the thickening agents is required for peach than for, say, apple. the good news is that I've got that the crust down pat. (I use a recipe from Nick Malgieri and throw in a couple of tablespoons of sugar, and make the whole thing by hand);

  • Another happy and successful family visit to the ever-wonderful town library;

  • Dinner Saturday night at a new place for me, with a new cuisine: Vietnamese food at the Bamboo Grill. Everyone else ate various stir-fry things, but my stomach was a bit hinky, so I stuck with soup...something called Mi Ga, basically chicken soup with ramen noodles. It cost all of $5, and it was DELICIOUS, and, at the moment, it's the only thing I want to eat for for the rest of my life. I'm already plotting and scheming to get back there in the next few days. I do wonder, however, how it came to pass that a google search on the restaurant led me to a Sopranos site. scrolling down, it becomes clear that I am going to have to hang out there more often, as it's a good place to stalk Joey Pants;

  • Much wine was consumed, specifically dessert wines. Follow the link on the right side of the page for a new muscat that I like even better than the Bonny Doon Vin de Glaciere;

  • And, last but not least, my cable was out last night at 9 pm, when I was all set to watch Sex and the City. Let's just say that, this is not the first time that this has happened recently, and that, after I had entertained my family and amused my children all day long, I was rather looking forward to 30 minutes of unadulterated grown-up time, and that my poor unlucky Comcast rep got quite an earful.

XM rules! How else can you listen to the 'E! True Hollywood Story: Three's Company' for two hours while stuck in traffic?

Hey! How about all the hours spent getting you blog in shape?

Yep. And I have even less respect for Suzanne Sommers than I did when we started our journey. Hard to imagine, that.

But satellite radio has all the same problems as cable TV: 100 channels and nothing on, or repeats of the all the stuff you heard last week but don't want to hear again. It would be *so* much easier if *someone* would learn to like Jazz, Reggae, or even Techno. Some kinds of "music" just aren't meant to be heard, like Country and Broadway...

That's true...we did spend a lot of time on the blog. I like the way it looks, but I'm open to comments. By email, of course.

and, truthfully, being stuck in traffic with techno on the radio is my idea of hell on wheels.

I did not put Country on the radio. And what's wrong with the Broadway Channel? Didn't you like the 'Everything Andrew' show?

*I* wasn't the one mocking the country and browadway stuff. I'd rather listen to either of those than techno or rave or whatever. Did I ever tell you about the time in the late 80's that WNEW was giving away tix to The Who doing Tommy live at Radio City? The most outrageous stunt proposal would win...that ended up being the guy who pledged to sit in the dj booth for 24 hours with nothing but Barry Manilow on his walkman.
