a little glimpse of me

September 03, 2003

mama's cooking now!

I've volunteered to teach cooking to 1st and 2nd graders at our local library this fall. October is going to be Apples, with caramel apples and all the trimmings and fruit dip to take home...November will bring us Healthy Lunchbox Snacks (we'll do Ants on a Log, but other suggestions are welcome!)...and December will find us decorating holiday cookies.

Fun, no?

The BHG Cookie book has a section on cookies for kids.

There are some fun recipes in Molly Katzen's two cookbooks for kids - Pretend Soup and Honest Pretzels. I have both; will browse through to see if anything jumps out at me.

I have those Molly Katzen books! I love them. I am going to make Caramel Apples with decorations and then a dip to take home for the apple class, and Ants on a Log and GORP for the healthy snack class, but I need one more thought for that one. Anyone?? Maybe cream cheese and tortilla spirals with sugar and cinnamon?

Terry, that restaurant for kids I was telling you about has a web site - www.peanutbutterellies.com - and a picture of the bug plate!

I saw! I am totally ripping off the dragon flies. That plus ants on a log plus spiders equals my own bug plate. And I'm going to change the class title from lunchbox snacks to Nuts About Peanut Butter...then we can make the pb and grape sandwich, too!

If it's not too much, make a peanut butter spread/dip with peanut butter and applesauce. Keeps well in the refrigerator, good with fruit, and you can even add cinnamon and/or nutmeg if you want it fancy-schmancy.
