MTA Protest
New York City
18 Dec. 2004

On this day street photographers, photobloggers, and concerned citizens gathered to ride the New York City subways and take photographs to protest proposed regulations that would prohibit photography without a permit on the subways. In recognition of the impossibility of enforcing such a ban, the unlikelihood that a photography ban would make public transportation safer, and the long history of documentation of everyday life on the trains and buses through the medium of photography, the proposed ban failed.
