{"id":2216,"date":"2011-01-19T13:41:50","date_gmt":"2011-01-19T17:41:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.echonyc.com\/~horn\/unbelievable\/?p=2216"},"modified":"2011-01-19T13:41:50","modified_gmt":"2011-01-19T17:41:50","slug":"daryl-bem-and-feeling-the-future","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.echonyc.com\/~horn\/unbelievable\/?p=2216","title":{"rendered":"Daryl Bem and Feeling the Future"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I was hoping to see more of a response from my favorite parapsychology blogs to Daryl Bem&#8217;s paper <a href=\"http:\/\/dbem.ws\/FeelingFuture.pdf\">Feeling the Future: Experimental Evidence for Anomalous Retroactive Influences on Cognition and Affect<\/a> (due to be published in the  Journal of Personality and Social Psychology).  In it Bem says his experiments found evidence for precognition.  <\/p>\n<p>There was an article about it in<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2011\/01\/06\/science\/06esp.html?_r=2&#038;hpw\"> The New York Times<\/a>, but so far the only ones to address it from the non-skeptical angle are Dean Radin on his blog <a href=\"http:\/\/deanradin.blogspot.com\/\">Entangled Minds<\/a>, and<br \/>\nCassandra Vieten, Ph.D, the Director of Research at the Institute of Noetic Sciences, who wrote a piece about it for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/cassandra-vieten\/esp-evidence_b_795366.html\">Huffington Post<\/a>.  (She also discusses it more on <a href=\"http:\/\/noetic.org\/blog\/responding-to-the-debate-psi-research-at-a-tipping\/\">her blog<\/a> on the Institute&#8217;s website.)  <\/p>\n<p>She also addresses Jonah Lehrer&#8217;s New Yorker article, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newyorker.com\/reporting\/2010\/12\/13\/101213fa_fact_lehrer\">The Truth Wears Out<\/a>.  And Jonah Lehrer wrote about Bem&#8217;s work in November for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wired.com\/wiredscience\/2010\/11\/feeling-the-future-is-precognition-possible\/\">WIRED<\/a>.  I should say there&#8217;s probably a lot more out there, I&#8217;m just talking about the blogs I check into regularly.<\/p>\n<p>Here is a picture of J. B. Rhine is his office at Duke University.
