{"id":2348,"date":"2011-07-02T11:05:18","date_gmt":"2011-07-02T15:05:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.echonyc.com\/~horn\/unbelievable\/?p=2348"},"modified":"2011-07-29T17:30:21","modified_gmt":"2011-07-29T21:30:21","slug":"rest-in-peace-garrett-husveth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.echonyc.com\/~horn\/unbelievable\/?p=2348","title":{"rendered":"Rest in Peace Garrett Husveth"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.echonyc.com\/~horn\/unbelievable\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/Garrett.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.echonyc.com\/~horn\/unbelievable\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/Garrett.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"Garrett\" width=\"250\" height=\"375\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-2349\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nI only just heard today that Garrett Husveth, a long time paranormal researcher, died on April 30, 2011.\u00a0 He was only 43!\u00a0 According to the Bernardsville News he died at home, after a long illness.<\/p>\n<p>Garrett was one of the first people I met when I started researching my book about the Duke Parapsychology Lab.\u00a0 He\u2019s been investigating the unexplained, particularly in New Jersey, for a long time, and I went to him to learn about EVP (electronic voice phenomena, thought by some to be the voices of the dead).  He was just so kind and generous.  From my book:<\/p>\n<p><em>Skeptics answer that the recordings are in fact white noise that only sound like voices.\u00a0 However audio engineers and linguistics experts and others have been working for decades on speaker identification and evaluation systems and they know what human speech looks like. \u00a0A forensics audio examiner was once hired to determine whether a sound from a recording of a fatal accident was a door loudly squeaking or a woman screaming (it was, sadly, a woman screaming).\u00a0 <strong>Garrett Husveth, the President of Latent Technologies, who conducts forensic audio analysis for corporate clients and who also records examples of EVP says, \u201cForensically, we can prove that they are voices.\u201d<\/strong><br \/>\n<\/em><br \/>\nI also learned from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sturgesparanormal.com\/wordpress_site\/people-i-investigate-with\/garrett-husveth\/\">Sturges Paranormal<\/a> website that Garrett was a contributing editor of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gtwservices.com\/ghosts_of_central_jersey.htm\">Ghosts of Central New Jersey: Historic Haunts of the Somerset Hills<\/a>, by Gordon Thomas Ward.
