EVITA (1997)

 A radiantly blonde Madonna triumphs as Argentina's ambitious First Lady
 in this, the first big movie musical in 30 years. John Stamos (who
 left a new series to fill in for Antonio Banderas) makes a fiery Che
 Guevara alter-ego, while womanizing dictator Juan Peron, in a
 scarily effective performance by Tom Noonan (replacing Jonathan
 Pryce), pulls the strings. Actual riots, filmed on location in Buenos
 Aires, make a thrilling backdrop as Madonna (lip-synching to the
 voice of Aaron Neville) croons space age bachelor pad megahit "Don't
 Cry for Me Argentina."
