Description:
The Quaker is an interactive portrait of the Quaker Oats man. The Quaker appears on-screen in a hand-drawn and life-like "squiggle effect" animation. His eyes periodically blink and his gaze moves from left to right.

Instructions:
After images download (approximately 145K) click anywhere on the portrait, the Quaker's hat lifts off his head revealing a bald pate. An oat stalk and subsequent oat kernel grows from the Quaker's head and gently floats around the screen until disappearing from view.

Details:
In this animated interpretative rendering the Quaker Oats man is depicted as bald beneath his big Plain hat. However, by clicking the mouse atop the portrait it's possible to make stalks of oats grow in random patterns atop his head.

After an oat stalk reaches "maturity" (i.e., once fully grown), an oat kernel begins to emerge from the end of the stalk. When an emerging and enlarging oat kernel reaches full size, it breaks off from the stalk. The stalk then turns from a golden harvest yellow color to a mature gray. The now fully grown oat kernel begins spinning along a randomly determined path atop the entire area of the portrait canvas.

After you stop clicking the mouse and the oat stalks stop growing, the Quaker's Plain hat gently staggers back onto his no longer totally bald head.

The Quaker can grow a maximum 250 oat stalks atop his pate. When all of the oat stalks are fully grown, the Quaker appears to have a thick head of hair. To shave the Quaker's head and again render him a bald man, press the keyboard space bar.
