On the Hospitalization of My Daughter For Diabetes
Staying Friends

On the Hospitalization of My Daughter For Diabetes
by Lynne Savitt

all my plans
we cannot run
away now
all my plans
for covering our nipples
with forest leaves
digging our toes into the plush gray
carpet of a san francisco apartment
hiding out with donald duck for weeks
at disneyland
no one was going to be able to find us my green
eyed daughter
grandma, brother, your long gone father would
search the editorial offices, bookshops, readings
& we'd be tying flowers, shells on a string
in our hair
all my plans
for kissing the suntanned knees
of old california lovers
the knuckles of beer breath loggers
you
the perfect daughter
you
the perfect star
you
the perfect
all my plans
for the nuclear holocaust
survival of the strongest
and you will need your insulin
all my nightmares
a newly knit muffler
choking my summer spirit
i fill the syringe

i rub your perfect thigh with alcohol
oh, my perfect
oh, my plans
oh, my daughter...

Staying Friends
For Jon
by Lynne Savitt

Sex is the least interesting
thing about us

We lost our intimacy
when i opened my legs

Once you worried my mouth
so bitter would turn
on you when we no longer
pounded sweet into each other

I want to stay your friend

Sex is the least interesting
thing about us

Let's pull up our zippers

The world is cold enough
