Years Glide By
on road-runner legs--
memory digs trenches, recalls
subterranean homesick blues.
on the road again, with bob, not
jack, headed for the gates
of forbidden edenic paradise--

it's over, baby blue--
mr. tambourine man jangled chains
for one too many hung-over mornings,
sang north country blues
hoped god was on our side
not looking away across farther greenery.

times changed, bobby.
changed too quickly
to clutch the horse's tail...
when you finally awakened, you had
become a pawn within a vicious game;
another's restless farewell.

you sang; "it's all right, ma, i'm
only bleeding" while spanish leather
boots ached to make you
bleed more.
a pseudo jesse james;
molded to wail the outlaw blues.
i waited
& waited, not knowing the real
reason, you couldn't
come back to me
