The 2001 Lambda Winners

Stonewall Inn editor Keith Kahla presents the winners of the 2001 Lambda Literary Awards

On Thursday, May 31, 2001 the 13th annual Lambda Literary Award ceremony was held in Chicago, on the eve of the major publishing trade show Book Expo America (BEA). It was the usual gala event with authors, publishers, booksellers, and other luminaries galore. Rumor has it that it was a lovely evening, enjoyed by all. But, alas, I was stuck on grand jury duty and couldn't attend, leaving my co-worker Teresa Theophano to bask in all the reflected glory while I was stuck in a New York City courtroom. But I'm not in the least bit bitter. Well, not VERY bitter.

Stonewall Inn authors Noelle Howey and Ellen Samuels picked up two awards for their anthology Out of the Ordinary (Non-fiction anthology & Children/Young Adult) and Elena Georgiou (co-editor of The World in Us) won for her solo poetry collection, Mercy, Mercy Me. Congratulations to Noelle, Ellen, all their contributors, Elena, and the rest of this year's winners. For further details about the Lambda Literary Awards (known colloquially as the "Lammys"), see the Lambda Literary Organization's web-site at www.lambdalit.org.
